Ilham Aliyev attended a ceremony to commission a water systems distribution facility

President Ilham Aliyev has attended a ceremony to commission a water systems distribution facility which will supply Nakhchivan with drinking water.

Representatives of the public warmly welcomed the head of state.

The President was informed that the infrastructure projects aimed at meeting the needs of the autonomous republic’s population for drinking water represent special importance among those implemented in Nakhchivan in recent years. The water distribution network under construction in the city of Nakhchivan according to the loan agreement between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Asia Development Bank on the reconstruction of the water supply and sewerage systems of the capital will fully resolve the drinking water problem. Drinking water is supplied to the city from a distance of 17 kilometers through special pipes and, after being treated, reaches the population by means of a water distribution facility. The capacity of the facility is 600 liters of water a second.

Currently, a project on reconstruction of the water supply and sewerage systems in the city of Nakhchivan is under way. As part of the project, 21,500 meters of drinking water pipes and 18,300 meters of sewage lines have been renovated.

The area in which the water distribution facility is located has been landscaped in accordance with the master plan of the city. The head of state reviewed master plans of water and sewage networks of Nakhchivan, as well as the systems that will supply the city with drinking water.

It was indicated that new pipelines laid from underground sources of water near the Nakhchivan riverbed will not only meet the demand for drinking water, but will also prevent the emergence of shortages in the future.

Then the head of state reviewed sample pipes being used in the construction of the water supply system.
President Ilham Aliyev launched the facility supplying Nakhchivan with drinking water.
Addressing representatives of the city public, President Ilham Aliyev said:

- Congratulations! The first phase of this project has been completed, the water is already being supplied. In a year or two, all water problems of the city will be resolved. This project is of great importance and is being successfully implemented. Water means life. We must make sure that people everywhere have drinking water. Various measures are being taken in towns and villages. The implementation of individual projects has started in different parts of Azerbaijan, so that the problem of drinking water and sewage is solved in all cities. In the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic too, this issue is in the focus, work is already under way. Today we are marking completion of the first phase of the project. Let me congratulate you and express hope that we will soon celebrate completion of the project.
