Ilham Aliyev attended the opening of the Sadarak district central hospital

As part of a visit to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, President Ilham Aliyev arrived in Sadarak district.

Sadarak district is the only administrative and territorial unit in Azerbaijan to border on three states. In the early 1990s, the people of Sadarak heroically resisted the incessant attacks from Armenia. The development processes under way in this district in recent years have demonstrated again how important Sadarak is for Azerbaijan. The measures being taken in the spheres of education, health and others represent tremendous importance to the overall development of the district. This has preconditioned the construction of the Sadarak central hospital.

The hospital staff warmly welcomed the head of state.

President Ilham Aliyev cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the hospital and toured the building.

The three-storey hospital building covering an area of 11,700 square meters meets the latest requirements. The medical facility for 26 beds is fitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment and employs 29 doctors and 34 nurses. The facility will operate an in-patient hospital, an out-patient clinic and an emergency department. It also has departments of infectious diseases, pediatrics, maternity and gynecology, surgery, therapy, laboratory, pharmacy, offices of otolaryngology, physiotherapy, manipulation, electrocardiography and ultrasound examination. All conditions have been created to conduct surgical operations.

The head of state was informed that health reforms are well under way in the autonomous republic.

President Ilham Aliyev also met with the hospital staff.

Doctor Roza Quliyeva assured the President that the hospital staff were doing their best to justify the confidence of President Ilham Aliyev. She stressed that the Sadarak district hospital would provide the population with medical services of the highest level.

Congratulating medical staff, President Ilham Aliyev said:

- Dear friends, let me sincerely congratulate you on the occasion of the opening of this new beautiful hospital, and wish you good health and further successes. The opening of this hospital is a wonderful and remarkable event. I have toured the building and can say that it has modern equipment. All construction work has been performed at a high level, this is a great project. There are all conditions and opportunities to receive treatment, undergo examination and complete all diagnostic procedures. The hospital is a wonderful gift to district residents. I am trying to ensure that quality medical services are provided in every district of Azerbaijan.

I am very glad that a great job has been done in Nakhchivan in this field, great progress has been made. Over the past few years several excellent and modern health facilities have been established in Nakhchivan. I remember the opening of a diagnostic and treatment center in Nakhchivan four years ago, which was a major event. Nakhchivan does need a diagnostic and treatment center fitted with latest equipment and technologies, a building resembling an architectural piece of work. This wonderful medical facility has been operating for several years now and is the guardian of health in Nakhchivan. After that, a large and modern maternity hospital was established in Nakhchivan. There was also a great need for that because we have to make sure that children are born and grow up healthy.

As a result of the creative and improvement work under way in the country in recent years, the level of infant mortality in Azerbaijan has fallen sharply. In Nakhchivan, this figure is even lower than in developed countries. Why? Because medical services are provided at the appropriate level. The number of ambulance vans in Nakhchivan has increased. They can provide medical assistance to critical patients at any time. Such vehicles can be seen in major cities of the world. We have delivered them to Azerbaijan and will continue the process of their distribution among all districts. Earlier we established a central district hospital in Sharur, and prior to that in Julfa. Today there are excellent medical facilities fitted with sophisticated equipment in Shahbuz, Sadarak, Ordubad, Babek districts.

I hope that the doctors working here will constantly improve their professional level. Today, physicians should be aware of the best practices in the world of medicine, they should follow the media and go online. We must ensure that people representing all sectors of life in Azerbaijan, especially public health, apply modern technologies. This is a critical issue.

Human health and quality of life are top priority issues in the world today. Azerbaijan has made great progress in this area. Several modern medical centers have been established in Baku lately. We have recently celebrated the opening of a therapeutic training center of the Azerbaijan Medical University. In essence, this is a large clinic. It will house 15 departments and a clinic for over 300 patients. We are also constructing a surgical building of the medical university. The eye hospital, the cancer and urological centers, the thalassaemia hospital built earlier – these are the medical institutions established in recent years.

All medical institutions must provide medical services at a high level. People must be healthy. I have repeatedly talked about this and want to mention again that every citizen should undergo examination at least once a year. There are all the conditions to do that now. Every resident of the district must come to the hospital, undergo examination and be informed of his/her condition at least once a year. Today, there are modern medical facilities and hospitals in every district of Azerbaijan. People should regularly have their blood tested. This is necessary for both timely detection of diseases and for a healthy lifestyle.

Therefore, this hospital is highly important and meaningful. On the one hand, it is a sign of attention and care for the people, while on the other, it is evidence of the possibilities of present-day Azerbaijan. All this work in the fields of public health, education, culture, the entire social sphere is performed at the highest level. I want every hospital, regardless of its location, to be modern. I want every sphere of life in Azerbaijan to provide modern, original and quality services so that the Azerbaijani people could enjoy these wonderful opportunities.

I want all the work to be carried out at a high level here. I do hope that the number of people addressing this hospital remains small. After all, local people are healthy. The beautiful nature and favorable climate have a good effect on health. But if necessary, I want to be sure that this hospital can provide the best medical service and care. Once again I heartily congratulate you on this wonderful event and wish you success.
