President Ilham Aliyev participated in the opening of the Shabran encircling highway and the bridge compound located on the highway Baku – Guba – the state border with the Russian Federation.
The builders have welcomed wholeheartedly the head of state.
Briefing the President about the work, the Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov noted that the overall length of the bridge is 540 meters, its width is 23 meters and the height is 18 meters. The bridge with 4 lanes traffic side has 1.5 meter sidewalks in width on both its borders for pedestrians. Lane line on the bridge features 23 lamp poles made from stainless metal.
In order to ensure the safety for vehicles, two protecting walls are mounted on both sides of the bridge. Built on three pillared columns, this bridge is composed of 16 cross sections. Length of each cross section is 32 meter.
Seismic stability of the bridge can resist up to 8 – 9 earthquake magnitude. The concrete bridge wall adjusting system is installed to regulate possible torrents and inundations.
The construction site of the bridge is considered as a landslide zone. The earthwork operations in the amount of 4 million cubic meters have been performed in this area while three water storage reservoirs with each capacity of 500 cubic meters supplying potable water to the city of Shabran have been removed from the landslide zone and constructed in a safer place. The gas purification unit in this territory has been also moved to the more secure place.
Following the completion of all these operations, a new highway has been constructed in line with modern standards and linked to the bridge.
President Ilham Aliyev cut the inaugurating ribbon, congratulated the builders and highly valued the work done.
