Ilham Aliyev reviewed the Flag Square and the Flag Museum in Shamkir

As part of a visit to Shamkir, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has reviewed the Flag Square and the Flag Museum.
The President was informed that the square is located at the entrance to Shamkir District and covers an area of 4.5 hectares. A flagpole 98 meters high has been installed and the national flag 40 meters long and 20 meters wide hoisted on it.

It was noted that the external windows of the museum are made of stained glass. The two-storey building has some interesting exhibits about the ancient and modern history of Azerbaijan. The museum, built in the shape of an eight-pointed star, demonstrates the flags of the states and khanates that existed on the territory of Azerbaijan in different periods, including the Erivan Khanate, as well as flag tips and coats of arms. In addition, there are numerous photographs and documents reflecting the formation and development of the independent state of Azerbaijan under the leadership of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev, the activities of President Ilham Aliyev related to the country’s progress, the flag of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, banners and ceremonial costume of the Armed Forces.
It was brought to the President’s attention that the museum displays a copy of the certificate of the Guinness Book of World Records which says that the flagpole of the national flag of Azerbaijan installed on the Flag Square in Baku is the highest in the world. There are also a variety of books and photos here. There is a special area with an 800-seat amphitheater for conducting various activities of patriotic nature. The area around the square has been landscaped. There are all the necessary conditions for meaningful recreation here. The Flag Square, one of the main symbols of Shamkir city, epitomizes the strength and power of Azerbaijan and has historical significance for future generations.
