In order to improve the quality of taxi services, modern cars meeting European standards have been brought to Baku. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev reviewed the new cars on 30 September.
The reconstruction of roads in the capital in accordance with international standards, the construction of new bridges and overhead crossings following presidential instructions on modernization of the road transport infrastructure in Baku and districts have enhanced the need for modern types of the public transport. On the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, work has commenced on the upgrade of the taxi depot in Baku and districts of the republic.
Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the head of state of the automobiles brought. He indicated that 12 of the cars are TX4 vehicles manufactured by well-known company London Taxi and meeting Euro-4 standards. These highly maneuvering cars are to be used only as taxis. The separation of the driver’s section from the rest of the vehicle by a glass partition creates extra comfort for passengers. The seats facing each other at the back of the vehicle can accommodate five passengers. Everything has been done for their comfort.
The car is equipped with a special approach ramp for wheelchairs and strollers. There are meters in the cars. For the convenience of passengers, a Call Center using modern technologies has been created. A dispatcher center working around the clock can effectively manage a large number of cars and exercise control over their location and speed, fuel consumption, engine condition on-line. It takes 40 seconds to accept and process an order, and 90 seconds to establish the car closest to it. The taxi arrives within 7-8 minutes. Other proposed services include the insurance of every passenger against an accident in the amount of AZN 3,000 and operation of the "lost-and-found" service. Drivers work in each car in three shifts. They have received driving and ethical conduct training from specialists of London Taxi to ensure a high level of passenger service.
After familiarizing himself with the vehicles, the head of state personally got behind the wheel and drove TX4 produced by London Taxi.
Then President Ilham Aliyev also reviewed Daewoo Lacetti and Daewoo Nexia produced by Daewoo, and Chevrolet of General Motors.
