President Ilham Aliyev has received a delegation led by UN Under Secretary General Wu Hongbo.
UN Under Secretary General Wu Hongbo conveyed greetings on behalf of Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to the President of Azerbaijan. He said the cooperation between the UN and Azerbaijan was at a good level. Wu Hongbo congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on Azerbaijan's election as nonpermanent member of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013.
Stressing that the government of Azerbaijan pays special attention to the development of information and communication technologies, Wu Hongbo appreciated the fact that our country had become a regional leader in this field. He thanked President Aliyev for the excellent organization of the Seventh Forum on Internet Governance. The guest noted the importance of Azerbaijan’s active participation in UN “e-Government” projects.
President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of UN Under Secretary General Wu Hongbo’s participation in the Seventh Forum on Internet Governance in Baku. The President said the development of the ICT sector was one of the priorities in Azerbaijan. President Aliyev recalled his last meeting with the UN Secretary General in New York during Azerbaijan’s presidency in the Security Council. Underscoring the importance of Azerbaijan’s election to the UN Security Council on the 20th anniversary of its independence and with strong international support, the President expressed hope that Azerbaijan would play an active role in the promotion of peace, security and friendship in 2013 too. President Aliyev expressed his confidence that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations would continue to develop successfully.
The President expressed his gratitude for the greetings from Ban Ki-moon and asked the Under Secretary General to communicate his greetings to the UN Secretary General.
