President Ilham Aliyev has met with the President of Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The sides emphasized the importance of the 12th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization, expressed their confidence that it would contribute to a further expansion of cooperation between countries of the region. The two presidents voiced their satisfaction with the development of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran in political, economic and cultural spheres, noted the good potential for the expansion of ties in the field of economy and trade, including energy, transportation and other areas. It was noted that the cultural and historical affinity between the two nations creates a good basis for a further development of relations. The sides also emphasized that the development of relations between the two countries would contribute to regional cooperation.
Stressing the importance of mutual high-level visits for the development of relations, the presidents expressed their confidence that the bilateral relations between the two countries would continue to develop.
The sides exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
