Following their private meeting, President Ilham Aliyev and Serbian President, Boris Tadic, held talks in an expanded format with delegations from both countries.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev addressed the participants of the meeting:
- Dear Mr. President!
Dear guests!
I would like to welcome you in Azerbaijan again. We had seminal discussions, both yesterday and today, about our successfully developing bilateral relations. I am, of course, positive that your visit will mark an important step toward further development of bilateral relations and enhancement of our cooperation in various fields. We have strong political ties. I hope our economic cooperation will conform to this strategic path. We attach great importance to our relations with Serbia. I am confident that our strong bilateral ties will create good opportunities for regional cooperation between the Balkans and the Caucasus and we will take our cooperation to a new level.
Your visit to Azerbaijan marks the first visit of a Serbian President in the history of our relations. We appreciate this and thank you for accepting our invitation.
I am sure that the discussions held today and the documents signed will create a strong foundation for long-term strategic relations between our states.
Once again, welcome! I am positive that you will appreciate your visit to Azerbaijan.
Serbian President, Boris Tadic, expressed his gratitude for the cordial welcome:
Thank you, Mr. President!
I am honored to be here. As you have mentioned, this is our first visit to your country on a presidential level. Thus, we are marking an important step in history. I hope that we will develop our relations as real friends. I see many similarities in the developing regions we live in – the Balkans and the Caucasus. We face the same challenges.
We are very interested in developing our bilateral ties. However, at the same time, we have a chance to elaborate on the challenges our countries face and the solution of our problems. I noticed many commonalities here, in Baku, during my visit to Azerbaijan. I should first mention that we have a lot in common between our people and our countries. I believe you will witness it yourself when you visit our country.
Mr. President, I believe we have common interests in protecting our territorial integrity. We have shared our views and decided that these issues are of crucial importance to us. Serbia is in favor of territorial integrity of all the countries around the world. In this regard, You can always rely on us.
