President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva have reviewed the work under way in a settlement comprised of residential buildings for refugee and IDP families in Agjabadi District.
First the head of state reviewed a stand reflecting the master plan of the settlement.
Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov said that thanks to the attention and care of the President about our compatriots who were driven out of their homes, all tent-caps have been eliminated in Agjabadi District, new settlements for refugees and IDPs built and important steps taken to address their social problems. The construction of a settlement comprised of 10 five-storey residential buildings for 560 IDP families in Agjabadi District shows that these measures have become consistent. The resettlement of refugees and IDPs from places of temporary accommodation and tents to new settlements with a perfect infrastructure is a manifestation of the government’s attention to these people. So far, a total of 70 settlements with a complete infrastructure and 20,000 apartments have been built for refugees and IDPs throughout the country. Over 100,000 of our compatriots have been resettled to new homes, 130 educational institutions, 50 health, communication and culture facilities commissioned, water pipes, electricity, gas lines and roads built.
It was noted that over the past seven years, the President of Azerbaijan has signed 27 decrees and orders relating to the social protection of refugees and IDPs, approved a state program and amendments thereto. In connection with the implementation of these documents, the Cabinet of Ministers has passed 88 decisions and orders, while the Milli Mejlis has adopted a law. The current level of government funding of refugees and IDPs is one of the highest in the world.
President Ilham Aliyev was informed about the main technical parameters of the new settlement. It was noted that its construction had commenced in June this year according to the Order signed by the head of state in 2007 on amendments to the state program approved in 2004. Fourteen local companies were involved in the construction. The new settlement will be commissioned early next year.
It was mentioned that the buildings of the settlement, which covers a total area of 10 hectares, will house 560 IDP families temporarily settled in Agjabadi District.
Then, President Ilham Aliyev and his wife Mehriban Aliyeva reviewed one apartment. It was noted that the apartments have the maximum range of services. The settlement has a school for 360 pupils and a kindergarten for 50 kids. Also available are a community center and an office building. In order to provide the settlement with an uninterrupted power supply, a transformer substation has been built. To meet the needs for drinking water, two 500-cubic-meter reservoirs have been constructed and new water lines laid. The settlement has gas supply, a gas pressure station has been set up, roads and streets built.
After examining the settlement, the head of state gave instructions and recommendations on completing the work at a high level.
