President Ilham Aliyev has received the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, Jan Kubis.
Recalling his visits to Azerbaijan as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovakia and Chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Jan Kubis said he was witnessing a great change in the country since then and congratulated the head of state on this progress. Praising Azerbaijan’s energy policy and regional transport projects, Jan Kubis thanked the President on behalf of the United Nations for the Eurasian information super highway project being implemented according to a special UN resolution and with Azerbaijan’s coordination. Stressing that the UN establishes international Centers on various areas, the distinguished guest said that, given the rapid development of the IT sector in Azerbaijan, the organization he represents is interested in establishing an international center for this area in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev said that Azerbaijan had already proved itself as a reliable partner in energy and regional transport projects. Stressing that the IT sector is developing rapidly in the country, the President emphasized the role of this industry in the future development of the Azerbaijani economy. Pointing to the significance of various UN projects, President Aliyev also stressed the importance of the idea of establishing an international UN center in the area of information technology in Azerbaijan.
