Ilham Aliyev met with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels

As part of his working visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, has arrived at the NATO headquarters at the invitation of the Alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO was hailed at the meeting.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg praised Azerbaijan's involvement in peacekeeping missions in Kosovo and Afghanistan. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg thanked President Ilham Aliyev for Azerbaijan's supporting Afghanistan. He emphasized that Azerbaijan's plans to enhance assistance to Afghanistan might contribute to the economic development of this country.
President Ilham Aliyev hailed the expansion of relations with NATO.
The head of state underlined Azerbaijan's active participation in peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan and in the reconstruction of the country's economy.
NATO's support to mine clearance operations in Azerbaijan's Jeyranchol region was pointed out at the meeting. Azerbaijan's importance as a transit country in terms of cargo transportation to Afghanistan was emphasized.
Successful cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union was also underlined.
They exchanged views on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting the current state and prospects of the negotiations.
The meeting also featured discussions on the regional issues. President Ilham Aliyev invited Jens Stoltenberg to visit Azerbaijan. The NATO Secretary General accepted the invitation.
