President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has met with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.
President Nursultan Nazarbayev said:
- Dear Ilham Heydar oglu, welcome to Astana! We are always pleased to see you in Kazakhstan. Our nations are close to each other on all fronts. Today we talked about the origins. In addition, our countries have never had any outstanding issues – neither in Soviet times nor in the years of independence. There was a feeling of friendship, trust in each other and sympathy with each other. We were together in joy and shared our concerns. Therefore, I think that every visit of yours, every meeting is a new chapter in the relations between our two countries.
It is a difficult time now. The world is experiencing a crisis. Prices on our exported goods have dropped. The prices affect our trade and the turnover between our countries. But we need to go through this and find common ground.
You are here to participate in the Summit of Turkic-speaking countries. Today, you kindly participated in our major events, when we looked at our history and origins. The people of Kazakhstan were very delighted to see the leader of fraternal Azerbaijan in this hall today.
A very warm welcome to you!

- Thank you very much, dear Nursultan Abishevich. Thank you for the invitation. I am pleased to visit fraternal Kazakhstan again.
As you have said, this morning we attended a ceremony dedicated to the anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate together, and your speech and analysis of the historical past and the present development of Kazakhstan once again show that the successes of the independent Kazakhstan are underpinned by profound national and historical roots.
Our people, as you have noted, have always been linked through the bonds of friendship, cooperation and brotherhood. We have always treated each other with great respect and support. Today too, the dynamic development of bilateral relations continues. We have mutual understanding on all fronts. We meet at the presidential level quite often both in Kazakhstan and in Azerbaijan, within the framework of events in other countries and always openly discuss bilateral and regional issues. Of course, the situation that has taken shape in the global economy today is quite worrying, and I think that this is also something we will discuss today. However, I should note that, according to our estimates, Kazakhstan is emerging from this situation with minimum losses. Of course, as oil producers and exporters, our countries are subjected to this test. It will be a test of our efficiency. I think, as you pointed out, we can cope with that with dignity and go forward successfully.
