Ilham Aliyev attends Third Nuclear Security Summit

The Third Nuclear Security Summit opened in The Hague, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, on 24 March
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is attending it.
The Nuclear Security Summit is a top-level meeting aimed at preventing nuclear terrorism which poses a serious danger for the international community in the 21st century. The heads of states and governments of over 50 countries and the leaders of various international organizations are attending the summit. On the agenda are the main nuclear security issues, including reducing the quantity of dangerous nuclear materials in the world, the security of radioactive sources and strengthening international cooperation in this area, among other topics.
The summit’s high-level guests praised Azerbaijan’s active participation in the meeting. The international community welcomes the contribution made by our country to global nuclear security under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Mark Rutte met President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The Nuclear Security Summit opened with a showing of a video film entitled “A Nuclear-Free World”.
After declaring the summit open, Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte welcomed the participants. He noted that very important work had been carried out in ensuring global nuclear security following the first summit which took place in 2010 on the initiative of US President Barack Obama and he stressed the significant role of strengthening diplomatic efforts in this area. The Dutch Prime Minister said that ensuring nuclear security would make it possible to guarantee the future of mankind and noted the value of government cooperation in this field.
President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea which hosted the previous summit said that ensuring nuclear security was a necessity in the world today. She stressed that her country is lending all possible support in this issue.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon noted the special importance of the summit in preventing possible nuclear terrorism. He said that nuclear security is of a global nature in the world today and he stressed the effectiveness of the UN mission in this area.
The summit then continued in plenary discussions, within the framework of which a session on “a scenario-based policy discussion” was held.

The King of the Netherlands His Majesty Willem-Alexander held a reception and dinner in honour of the heads of states and governments who attended the Third Nuclear Security Summit.
President Ilham Aliyev attended the event.
