The Administration of the Icharishahar State Historical-Architectural Reserve presented the new museum exhibition at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs complex, which is a symbol of the ancient history of Baku, a residence of the rulers of the State of the Shirvanshahs with one thousand years of history and one of the unique masterpieces of medieval oriental architecture included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The Palace of the Shirvanshahs, which received the status of a state historical and architectural museum, will greet visitors for the first time in its history with a museum exhibition that meets modern international standards. Extensive work in the field of conserving, restoring and promoting the numerous historical monuments in the territory of Icharishahar was made possible thanks to the constant attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev about the national cultural heritage.
Of particular note is the great role of the First Lady of Azerbaijan and Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO Mehriban Aliyeva and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation she heads in safeguarding and promoting the cultural artifacts of the country around the world, including Icharishahar, which is one of the masterpieces of the rich historical and architectural heritage. It is precisely as a result of the consistent implementation on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation of various projects aimed at preserving and promoting cultural artifacts and the rich spiritual heritage of our people that Azerbaijani culture began to be recognized globally.

It was noted that during the preparation of the museum exhibition at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs complex, research was conducted and relevant information about the history and architectural features of the monument, palace life and rulers who lived here was collected and analyzed. The creation of the new exposition involved local and foreign experts, and this work was carried out in cooperation with the Austrian company Artex, which specializes in designing museums around the world. Along with rich museum exhibits, the exhibition has widely used video projection, multimedia animation and audio and video presentations. In addition, at the Palace of the Shirvanshahs complex, visitors will be able to use the services of a multimedia guide for the first time. With the help of the multimedia guide made on the basis of Ipad Mini, one can listen to audio recordings on the themes of the exhibition in Azerbaijani, English, Russian, German and French and familiarize themselves with relevant photos and visuals. The design of the throne room of the palace and the exhibits and video presentations demonstrated here will make it possible to imagine the atmosphere and interior elements of the Shirvanshah era, and the 3D animated model of the history of the Shirvanshahs will arise a special interest among visitors. The museum also presents such interesting topics as palace life, urban architecture, ethnography, music, calligraphy and archeology.
The head of state and his wife visited parts of the complex and familiarized themselves with the conditions created here.
It was reported that the new museum exhibition also covers the ground floor of the two-storey residential building of the palace complex, which was previously closed to visitors. In the rooms of the lower floor of the building, there is a broad exhibition dedicated to Bayil Castle – a fortification of the Shirvanshahs from the sea. In addition, during the preparation of the museum exhibition, the original stone walls of the residential building, which was part of the palace complex, were restored and the territory was landscaped.
